Rodents

Last week we celebrated Easter.
We had food with friends.
We were busy, but in a good way.

Sunday we were visited by the Easter Bunny who graciously left Bean a confectionery version of himself.
The ears were the first to go.
On Thursday, our beloved gerbil Wheelie passed away.
He lived a great life.
Short but full.
He raced in his ball, against much larger hamsters, and took second place overall, winning several heats at the local PetSmart hamster races.
He could chew up a paper towel core in 5 minutes flat (after running through it once or twice).
He would run in his wheel, stop quick and ride it around for a full backwards loop.
He would nibble sunflower seeds out of our hands.
He was loved.

Bean inscribed a cardboard tube with "Weely, King of the Wheel!" and some decorative sunflower seeds.
We placed his furry body in it, took him out to the yard and buried him between two laurels.
We each said a few words.
We each cried.
Rest in peace little friend.

P.S. I only cried to model healthy grieving. I swear.

Full Disclosure

Ok.
Full disclosure.
I'm absolutely completely biased towards and inexplicably the father of the subject herein.

The Bean (As I often refer to her) received her latest report card today.
They don't give actual "Grades" yet.
It's mostly 1's 2's 3's, Satisfactory's, *, <, x, and ^'s.
Things are fine.
She's doing great.
Nothing too remarkable.
She's got mostly 1's and 2's with a few S's and thrown in there.
One of the line items that received a 3 ( "Developing") was "Organization" under the "Writing Development" section.
I thought something like; "Huh. I guess she's just still figuring that part out, after all this is still first grade right?"
No worries.

Then, in the packet of classwork she brought home with said report card, came this:

One day one hundred pieces of candy fell from the sky.
"I told my family. so we gatherd some and we studyed them and it tuernd out that the candy was magical! So we told the presedent. He said that if you eat one you will tern into a kind of animol. And different tips of candys turn you into different tips of animols. Like a tootsearol will turn you into a owl, and a candycain turns you into a mouse.

ps. 5 years laider it rained mice.

ppss. the clouds looked like tootsieroles."

I'm not worried about 3's in organization.
